At 42, Michael Moore of Amberley Village is three years into treatment for colorectal cancer. Nine rounds of chemotherapy in 2020 have left him especially vulnerable to the new coronavirus. He says he needs a vaccination, and science agrees with him.

“With COVID, outcomes can be so much worse because of the already compromised immune system,” he said. But Moore can’t get a shot now, and neither can thousands of other cancer patients in Ohio and elsewhere. Cancer by itself is not an eligible condition for vaccination under federal guidelines that most states use to guide distribution.
