Cancer and the Power of Social Media

Your Content Goes HereCancer is a serious subject, and traditionally that means communication has been limited to in-person meetings, clinical documents, news stories, and other traditional mediums. Social media is changing this paradigm, making it easier to reach larger audiences and creating new ways to discuss cancer-related topics. Dr. Sanjay Juneja, or TheOncDoc as he is known on TikTok, joins us for the June CPAN Advocacy Chat to teach us how social media can help those diagnosed with cancer.

Like many doctors, Dr. Juneja educates patients in a traditional clinical setting but doesn’t stop there. As TheOncDoc, Juneja delivers his message in a very relatable way, targeting his message to various audiences. You can find him and his important medical messaging on LinkedIn, YouTube, Doctorpedia.com, Instagram and on his most followed social media outlet TikTok, where he has over half a million followers. Through his messaging TheOncDoc helps break down complicated medical issues, dispels myths, and encourages positive health outcomes, including recommending cancer screenings. He has been featured on Doctor Mike’s 100 medical social influencers project during the COVID pandemic that included Dr. Anthony Fauci, as well as MTV, PureWow, DailyMail TV, and a host of other sites.

Join Rose Gerber, COA’s director of patient advocacy and education, and TheOncDoc as they discuss the various ways to combine traditional medical messaging with the power and reach of social media to make the greatest advocacy impact.

CPAN Advocacy Chats are regular virtual 30-minute educational conversations about cancer advocacy and policy with a guest speaker invited to discuss issues important to patients and advocates. Summaries of previous Advocacy Chats are available on the CPAN website.
