Community Oncology Alliance Launches New Chapter of Patient Advocacy Network in Arizona – Desert Hematology Oncology

Desert Hematology Oncology is teaming up with CPAN to launch a local chapter

The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) has launched a new local chapter of its Patient Advocacy Network (CPAN) at Desert Hematology Oncology in Surprise, AZ. The Desert Hematology Oncology CPAN Chapter will be the second in Arizona and will join the CPAN network that has chapters across twenty states.

“As we continue to grow CPAN’s national reach, we are thrilled to welcome Desert Hematology Oncology,” said Rose Gerber, MS, COA’s director of patient advocacy and education. With the majority of Americans battling cancer receiving treatment in the community setting, it is imperative that we protect and preserve the community cancer care delivery system. CPAN helps to raise awareness of community oncology practices’ positive impact on patient care and with this new addition, we can make our voice heard across the country.”

CPAN brings together patients, survivors, caregivers, family members, and oncology professionals to preserve local, quality, affordable cancer care for all. In a world of increasing provider consolidation and complicated policy changes, it is crucial to provide patients with the opportunity to learn about policies and laws that affect their access to care and the ability to voice their concerns to the lawmakers in control of those changes. CPAN members have access to monthly educational webinars, COA national events, and are invited to attend Hill Days in Washington, D.C. to meet with legislators.

The newly established chapter will offer a range of educational and practice-based advocacy opportunities, including monthly CPAN Advocacy Chats, where experts from around the industry cover topics like the latest in cancer policy, nutrition, mental health, and treatment; the annual COA Conference, where advocates from all parts of the country gather to learn more about the current state of community cancer care.

About the Community Oncology Alliance
The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for community oncology practices and, most importantly, the patients they serve. COA is the only organization dedicated solely to community oncology where the majority of Americans with cancer are treated. The mission of COA is to ensure that patients with cancer receive quality, affordable, and accessible cancer care in their own communities. More than 1.5 million people in the United States are diagnosed with cancer each year and deaths from the disease have been steadily declining due to earlier detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
