I was diagnosed in January of 2012 with late-stage aggressive breast cancer. I had been having regular screenings on the recommendation of my GYN, Dr. Antosh, because of a family history of cancer (mother, father, brother, aunt, and first cousin. I was tested to see if I had a hereditary gene, but thankfully, I did not. The lump in my breast was very large and, as I said before, very aggressive, so after having it confirmed, it was suggested to me by the surgeon that I first choose a place where I could go to be treated. Because I was a caregiver for my brother at the time who had head and neck cancer (he passed away in November of 2012) I was kind of familiar with the route to take. I knew that I didn’t want to go where he went because although it was an awesome hospital and his Dr. worked relentlessly to help my brother, the service was not very personable and everything seemed so disconnected and we were always running around in circles at the hospital to get everyone to work together for him. I went on the internet and typed in places for treatment or something along those lines, and one of the places that came up was Hematology Oncology Associates. The minute I seen the facility or even read anything about them I knew this was the place for me. I felt like an angel was guiding me to choose it. The first thing I saw a was a room where you receive treatment that had a huge window that seemed to look out over “hope”. I knew this was where I wanted to go. It’s almost hard to explain in words, but I can tell you that I never regretted my decision to be treated at this facility of all-inclusive care. For this to be one of the most tragic things I have ever experienced in my life. Attending this facility for treatment was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I thank God for Dr. Richard Cherney and the staff at HOA!
